Investigate the user-level reliability of Internet paths, using data from the Surveyor project and your own data. Characterize reliability by the availability of paths and partial or complete reachability. Is there a trend towards improving or deterioriating reliability? Is there a certain time of day or day of week that sees more or fewer outages? Is the reliability for certain institutions significantly worse than average? How long do outages last?
Develop a program that allows to measure reliability (connectivity) as described in RFC 2678. Try to measure data between a set of measurement hosts and a set of standard popular web servers and other institutions. Be sure to distinguish the case when, say, just the web server for an institution is dead, but connectivity to the remainder of campus still exists. Consider using the Business 40 (keynote.com) as targets.
