Project
You will complete a research project during the course of the semester. The research project serves two purposes. One is to gain hands-on experience and solidify what you have been learning in class; the other is to apply your innovative thinking to solve an interesting problem in the broad space of cellular networks and mobile computing which can be the starting point of your thesis topic or a cool application that can lead to further entrepreneurial endeavor.
The projects will be done in teams of 2 to 3. Together with your team members, you will choose a project from the list below or coming up with your own idea. I will need to validate your idea before you proceed to work on it.
A list of example projects is available here (accessible only from Columbia IP addresses).
Timeline
To ensure you are on track for a successful project, I have set the following deadlines.
- Sept. 18: Form final project team.
- Oct. 2: A 1-2 page project description which outlines the problem and basic solution that your team is going to solve.
- Oct. 23: A 4 page progress report which describes your progress, including a detailed problem description, discussion of some related work, preliminary results, your plans and timelines for the final project. I suggest that you write this document in a conference paper format.
- Dec. 4: Final presentations and demos in class.
- Dec. 11: A 10-12 page final project report (11-point fonts, reasonable margins, and a two-column page style)
