Seminar Description

Increasing use of computers and networks in business, government, recreation, and almost all aspects of daily life has led to a proliferation of data and resulting concerns about privacy. Differential privacy is a mathematical definition of individual privacy that quantifies the risk to an individual of having her data in a particular database.

In this light seminar / reading group, we will discuss a number of research papers on differential privacy. Students will take turns presenting papers. All students should read Cynthia Dwork's survey paper, which introduces the differential privacy concept and many of the results we will cover in the seminar.
