Online Class Conventions

The first 2 weeks of class will be online only, and you can find the zoom links for each session (and for office hours) via courseworks. For the first two weeks, the courseworks site for the class should be accessible to all Columbia students, whether or not they are registered for the class. Classes (but not office hours) will be recorded, and you will be able to watch classes via video if you wish. However, I strongly recommend that you attend classes in person. That way, you'll be up to date with the material, and will be able to ask questions during class. I will try to make class as interactive as possible.

Please keep yourself muted during class, except when answering or asking questions, as discussed below. If you have a question during class, just raise your hand via Zoom. Alternatively, type either the full question, or just the word question into the zoom chat box. When I ask a question, feel free to type the answer into the chat window, or to simply type answer if the answer is too involved to type. If I see question or answer in the chat window, I will call on the message writer to unmute and use the audio.

It is very helpful to me to have as many participants as possible turn on their video feeds. This allows me to get visual feedback about your level of understanding, and will enable me to be more responsive to the needs of the class. Please rename yourselves in Zoom with the name by which you would like me to call on you.
